Getting Under the Covers with Design Thinking

To use a racing analogy, I am in the home stretch! It's the last week of my Corporate Service Corps assignment! As my teammates and I dig deep to complete all of our deliverables, I am reflecting on how helpful the outputs of the IBM Enterprise Design Thinking workshop we held less than two weeks ago are now!

If you are used to doing information gathering for projects -- think one-on-one interviews, surveys, etc. -- but have never used tools from Design Thinking, reconsider your approach! The techniques we used helped to tease out successes, challenges, and ideas for improvements from 15 people, some of whom have never done anything like this and have very different roles, responsibilities, and even comfort with speaking and writing in English.

As we work on several deliverables that will help our NGO partner, READ India to strengthen their model and expand their impact in India, I can see how this one-day workshop shaped our thinking, uncovered gaps that we could help to fill, and allowed us to collectively define new insights and opportunities!

Though I will be distressed to leave my CSC team and work behind at the end of the week (now that I'm invested in my READ family, it's hard to not witness first-hand where they go next!), I am very hopeful that our work will support them in achieving all of their goals!
